SCIP Programme

During the School Community Involvement Programme (SCIP) Jess East, our Youth Volunteering co-ordinator visits five high schools per week and spend 1-2 hours with the Volunteering class at each.

We do things like learning about collective decision making and communication in the volunteer sector, visiting the SPCA, baking for foodbanks, visiting resthomes and preschools, fundraising money for non-profit groups, cleaning up beaches and much much more! It is a rewarding introduction to volunteering for many of the young people, and a fun continuation for others. This year, two of the SCIP groups, one from Columba, and one from Queen's High, each held fundraising events for the people of Canterbury, totalling over $1000 per event! This was a massive acheivement and really showed the enthusiasm that young people do have when they are engaged in what they are doing.
